Citadel closes recruiting with a rush

The haul from The Citadel’s final recruiting weekend includes a cornerback who had been committed to Pitt and a running back who had an early offer from Colorado State.

James Julius, a 5-11, 170-pound cornerback from Evans High School in Orlando, had originally committed to Pitt. But a coaching change there left his plans scrambled, to the Bulldogs’ benefit.

“He’s a great kid,” said Evans coach Chip Gierke. “Exceptionally talented, a warrior. I can’t say enough good things about him.”

Julius was all-Central Florida and also had interest from Iowa State, Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Memphis, Boston College, Florida Atlantic and Florida International.

His highlight reel:

The Bulldogs also have a commitment from DeAndre Schoultz, a 5-9. 185-pound do-it-all athlete from South Aiken HS. Schoultz caught 50 passes for 734 yards and ran for 390 yards for South Aiken last season, and also played some QB, DB and KR. He had an early offer from Colorado State and interest from Division III power and national champ Mount Union, but coach Jeremy West (a Citadel grad) said Colorado State filled up at his position.

“He’ll fit in well at The Citadel,” West said.
