App State has played three overtime games this season, winning two of them. The Mountaineers have had an up and down season, with no losing skid longer than seven games and no winning streak longer than five. They’ve won two of their last three and four of their last six. They are 5-1 at home in SoCon play, the lone loss to mighty Davidson, and have beaten North leader Elon and Western Carolina at home. Defense is the key issue for App; it allows 1.072 points per possession (No. 283 in the country at kenpom.com). Bad, but not nearly as bad as The Citadel’s 1.19 (No. 346). Foes shoot 52.9 percent on 2-point shots v App (No. 324). so perhaps there is opportunity for Citadel big men Mike Groselle and PJ Horgan. But App does a pretty good job defending the 3-point line (32.4 percent, No 112). 6-6 junior Tevin Baskin has provided spark off the bench for App, a projected 81-67 winner by kenpom.com
