Citadel’s Joe Jackson: “It was awesome”

Citadel Bulldogs talk after Joe Jackson’s walk-off homer in the 9th gives Citadel a 6-5 win over App State in SoCon tourney:

The Citadel – Head coach Fred Jordan

“It doesn’t get any better than that. They had a great player at the plate in the ninth, (Hector) Crespo, and then we had a great player at the plate in our half and had a walk-off. They really deserve it, because they have been left on the field several times. (Austin) Pritcher pitched about his toughest he could pitch. Give credit to Appalachian State for being patient and making it a pitch-count game.”

“Our hitters showed great patience with two outs, and to get us in RBI situations. By winning game one, we can maybe relax and get some key RBI hits to make it a whole lot easier.”

“I was very pleased with the back end of our bullpen. Ross White pitched very well, and (Zach) Sherrill and (David) Rivera. (Skylar) Hunter did OK, unfortunately left a pitch too high up, but very pleased with the way we pitched today.”

Joe Jackson

“It was awesome. I had a lot of family here today that don’t normally get to see me play including, my granddad. It felt really good and I felt comfortable at home. I was happy to see a good strike to hit, and I’m out swinging away.”

“We had some good opportunities. Very patient, timely hits and walks. Everybody contributed and we just have to take advantage of those opportunities.”

“Definitely a confidence booster. Everybody is looking forward to coming to the field every day. We’re not playing with doubt, we’re playing with confidence, and that helps out a lot.”

 Austin Pritcher

“It was a great last game for me to pitch in. One of my best friends, Joe, hit a walk-off, and I went out there and battled and kept us in the game. That’s all coach has asked for, to give us a chance to win, so it was a good last game.”

Drew DeKerlegand

“I was fortunate enough to come up with them on base, and when that opportunity comes up you, just have to capitalize, and I was lucky to get it up enough.”
