Citadel football still adding players

The Citadel has made no official announcements since signing day, but new football coach Mike Houston continues to add players to his first recruiting class.

Since the original class of 17 was announced on Feb. 5, the Bulldogs have received commitments and/or NLIs from these players (unofficially, of course).

– FB Isiaha Smith (5-11, 223) Hagerstown, Md., previously reported.

– QB J.T. Waters (5-10, 175), Palmetto Christian Academy, Mount Pleasant, previously reported.

– DB Jordan Scott (6-0, 185) of South Aiken HS. Announced his commitment on Twitter on Thursday. Also played wide receiver and running back.

– DE Steven Knowles (6-1, 225) from Cirtus HS in Inverness, Fla.

– WR Joshua McCoy (6-3, 208) of York HS

– DB Carl Cunningham (6-1, 171) of Steele HS in Cibolo, Texas.

That would give The Citadel at least 24 players in this recruiting class, including FB Evan McField of Goose Creek, apparently slated to be a preferred walk-on. He’s the one who made the dramatic switch from S.C. State to The Citadel on signing day. There are almost certainly some players I’m missing.

Hopefully The Citadel will officially announce the additional players soon.

    • a preferred walk-on is just a recruited athlete who does not receive a full scholarship, as opposed to a walk-on who, for example, shows up at a tryout and makes the team
