Citadel Bulldogs talk after Joe Jackson’s walk-off homer in the 9th gives Citadel a 6-5 win over App State in SoCon tourney:
My feature for Friday on Citadel catcher Joe Jackson (or Joe Johnson, as he’s known to his teammates) was bumped to next week, so I thought I’d type a few words here on Bulldogs baseball as they host Davidson this weekend.
Wednesday’s game at No. 1 North Carolina was going to be difficult under any circumstances, but The Citadel got the full Tar Heel in UNC’s 13-0 win. North Carolina is so good that the loss actually bumped the Bulldogs’ RPI up to No. 48 from 52 at boydsworld.com
In fact, they might be close to climbing on to the bubble for the 64-team NCAA Tournament.
The Palmetto State landed zero (0) teams in the NCAA basketball tournament, but you can bet we will get some teams in the 64-team NCAA baseball regionals.
With the season about one-quarter done, here’s how Palmetto State teams are stacking up in the RPI at Boyd’s World out of 298 D-I teams We’ve got four in the top 27, seven in the top 100:
No. 5 South Carolina visits The Citadel at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Riley Park. The Gamecocks have won six of the last seven in the series, the Bulldogs’ last win coming on April 12, 2011, a 2-0 Citadel win at Riley Park.
Here’s a tale of the tape:
