Headed out to the blue water Saturday with Guy Ackerman and Andy Winter aboard Ackerman’s Big Tease. Got an early start and found some fish in about 350 feet. My buddies were sleeping on beanbags when we hooked a pair of 40-pound fish, a wahoo and nice bull dolphin.
I was watching the lines, zoning out when the wahoo came screaming in from the left, fins cutting the water. For a second, I thought it might have been a small billfish. Wishful thinking, perhaps.
Winter (my brother) landed the wahoo first, then Ackerman fought the dolphin in from way, way, way back. A daymaker experience, to be sure.
The rest of the day was slow, and radio chatter indicated most boats had trouble finding the fish. Rumor was that the blue marlin bite has moved north.
