Jeff Baxter, co-race director of the Charlie Post Classic, just sent me this update:
There are 601 registered after the end of yesterday’s online sales, with 330 in the 15K and 270 in the 5K.
The weather forecast is fairly positive so we’re expecting a large number of late registrations. Mostly sunny and cool temps, 40ish, at race start warming to 60 degrees by midday, with a breeze from the north. These conditions look good for producing some fast times.
Competition will be strong for the 15K championship. After a scan of the registration list, many of our top local runners are registered (Rives Poe, Caitlin Schier, Caitlin Ranson, Karl Walsh, Jay Upchurch, Michael Banks, Irv Batten,). In addition, a couple of notable out-of-town, but familiar names include Eric Ashton and Laurie Knowles.
This is the first year that we are the official USATF SC 15K Championship. The Running Club is working with Chris Kling, our new USATF SC representative. We envision the 2013 race as a springboard into future partnering with USATF to increase the exposure and competition for the 15K.
There will be a $2,000 purse for overall awards in the 15K and gift certificates to On The Run for the 15K age group winners. Medals will go 3-deep in each age group.
The 5K will feature On The Run and/or Primetime Fitness gift certificates for 5K overall awards and to On The Run for age group winners. Medals will be presented to 3-deep in each age group.
Triangle Char+Bar is our title sponsor for the second year in a row. Just like Floppin’ Flounder, Triangle will be on hand to serve breakfast burritos after the race. The Body Garden will join us for a second year in row, to provide post-race recovery massages.

On January 26, 2013, the Charleston Running Club will host the 30th running of the Charlie Post Classic 15K & 5K. The Charlie Post Classic is CRC’s signature event and honors the memory of Dr. Charlie Post. This year’s 15K event will serve as the USA Track & Field South Carolina Association 15K State Championship and carries a $2,000 purse. During the 2012 race, $7,500 was raised and contributed to the Charlie Post Endowment Scholarship fund at the College of Charleston. We expect the 2013 races to be bigger and better and registrations will be capped at 1,000 runners.
