The Jerry Zucker Ride for Hope returns this fall, headlined by internationally-renowned professional cyclist and SC-native, George Hincapie, to raise funds to support local cancer charities, making a direct impact on improving quality of life and cancer treatment for thousands of South Carolinians.
Each year several hundred bicyclists raise money and ride together through the beautiful and quiet roads of the Francis Marion National Forest, riding to raise money to fight this disease.
Jerry Zucker Ride for Hope participants include cancer survivors, as well as some cyclists currently undergoing treatment, whose strength and courage is an inspiration to all.
Over the last five years, the Jerry Zucker Ride for Hope has raised more than $500,000 which is returned directly to the Charleston community, supporting the outreach and programs of The Hollings Cancer Institute, Roper St. Francis Cancer Center, Share our Suzy, Camp Happy Days, and other cancer-related programs.
This year’s Ride for Hope is better than ever, and includes a new family-friendly, ten-mile “Cruiser Ride” for all ages and abilities.
Cruiser Ride participants have a lower fundraising requirement ($250) and receive a Ride for Hope t-shirt, waterbottle, a delicious catered lunch and after-party.
Cyclists looking for more of a challenge can challenge themselves to raise $500 toward fighting cancer and join in either the 30-mile or 100K ride. Riders at the $500 level receive a custom Hincapie cycling jersey (value $200), t-shirt, custom cycling socks, and waterbottle.
This year’s ride includes a post-ride celebration at Awendaw Green with a hearty re-fueling lunch of fresh-made pasta by local vendor Salt Works, beer and live music by “Hit or Miss” featuring select band members from Sol Driven Train.
