Pure Barre opens second location in Charleston on Jan. 28; offers pre-opening discounts

PURE BARRE BRINGS NATIONAL FITNESS CRAZE TO NEWEST LOCATION IN DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON.

Pure Barre, the fastest, most effective way for women to change the shape of their bodies, today announced the launch of its newest location in downtown Charleston.

The new franchise studio, located at 164 Market Street, next to Leaf Cafe, is owned by Jen Leitch and Jenn Vannatta and is expected to open on January 28, 2013.

This is Pure Barre’s second location in the Charleston area, with a studio also located in Mt. Pleasant, next to Whole Foods in Patriot’s Plaza.

“The excitement surrounding the opening of our second Pure Barre in Charleston has been contagious,” says co-owner Jenn Vannatta.

“Our clients are truly inspirational.” Jen Leitch, co-owner adds, “Downtown Charleston is ready for a top-rated nationally acclaimed barre studio – Pure Barre is thrilled to be here.”

This ballet barre workout has exploded in popularity since its inception in 2001. Focusing on the areas of the body women struggle with the most, Pure Barre lifts the seat, tones the thighs and upper body, and creates the long and lean muscles of a dancer through small isometric movements centered around a ballet barre.

Since it began franchising in 2009, more than 100 Pure Barre studios have opened nationwide.

“We are thrilled to open our newest location in Charleston and bring the excitement and results of Pure Barre to its residents,” said Carrie Dorr, Founder & Chief Concept Officer of Pure Barre.

“The continued growth of Pure Barre studios across the country is a testament to the workout’s ability to quickly transform women’s bodies, and we couldn’t be happier to bring this experience to vibrant downtown Charleston.”

Pure Barre is offering pre-opening specials. New clients can purchase five weeks of unlimited classes for only $99 or a 6 month unlimited rate of $155 per month. These specials are only available until January 31st.

Classes are already forming at the new Pure Barre studio, which will operate from 6 am to 9 pm. Registering for a class is simple, and can be done in person, over the phone or by logging on to www.purebarre.com/p-locations.html and choosing your studio of choice.

Got arthritis? Know someone who does? Yoga House of Charleston has a program for you!

Via Gail Corvette, yoga instructor at MUSC and elsewhere

Yoga for Arthritis Workshop

The Yoga House of Charleston Hosts a Workshop to Help Arthritis Sufferers January 19, 2013

January 4, 2013, CHARLESTON, SC. Twenty percent of adults in the US suffers from arthritis—the country’s leading cause of disability, according to the Arthritis Foundation. The Yoga House of Charleston is offering a hands-on workshop to allow participants to experience the healing benefits of the ancient practice of yoga.

“My mother has had two knee replacements and suffers from joint pain in her hands,” says workshop facilitator Gail Corvette, age 53. “I went away for vacation last summer and didn’t practice as much yoga as I usually do. I was awakened by joint pain in my knuckles after just one week away from my normal routine. That was a wake-up call to start my quest to understand osteoarthritis and what I was doing to keep the pain and joint inflammation at bay,” she says.

“I knew I was on to something when, that same week, one of my regular students said she had been visiting her sister for a week…and her joints hurt, which she attributed to not practicing yoga,” Corvette continued.

The workshop is offered in three parts: the first part for all participants (1 p.m.-2 p.m.) gives an overview of why yoga is such a great way to prevent and live with arthritis (more than 100 musculoskeletal diseases and conditions that destroy joints, bones, muscles, cartilage and other connective tissue for which there is no cure). The second part (2:15 p.m.-3:30 p.m.) focuses on specific yoga poses that can ease lower body pain (hips, knees, feet and ankles). The third part (3:45 p.m.-3:30 p.m.) addresses the upper body (neck, lumbar spine, shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands). Refreshments will be served from 5 p.m.-6 p.m.

Online enrollment is available at www.yogahousecharleston.com/events.

Gail Harrison Corvette holds the RYT-500 level of certification from the Yoga Alliance, which signifies she has had more than 500 hours of teacher training. She has been teaching yoga since 2006, in New York and Hong Kong before moving to Charleston in 2008. Her students describe her classes as positive, fun and intelligently paced. She teaches public classes at The Yoga House of Charleston, The MUSC Wellness Center and The Sophia Institute.

The Yoga House is located in Crossroads Center at 1836 Ashley River Road, next to Total Wine and across from Barnes & Noble.  The studio is open Monday-Sunday and offers nearly 40 classes per week.
