CofC looking to build on Coker victory; Scouting Marist

The Cougars take on Marist, who has not won a game yet this season under first-year coach Jeff Bower.

A year ago, the Cougars beat Marist, 85-75, having one of their best shooting performances of the season. It was part of two-game road trip that featured a win over Vermont (62-50) as well.

Lewis

Marist’s Chavaughn Lewis is averaging 16.7 points a game

This is another game for the Cougars to build some confidence against a team they should beat.

The Cougars struggled a bit shooting the ball in the first half against Coker on Thursday, but thought they found their rhythm in the second half. If the Cougars could make some free throws they would have won by 20 points against the Cobras.

Next week, the Cougars schedule gets a bit tougher as they will travel on Wednesday and face Old Dominion and then Kent State (Saturday) at home. Kent State is currently 8-2.

MARIST AT A GLANCE

Marist is searching for its first win of the season under first-year head coach Jeff Bower, who was previously the general manager of the NBA’s New Orleans Hornets. Bower was previously an assistant coach with the Red Foxes from 1986-95 and was on staff for the program’s last NCAA Tournament appearance in 1987 which featured former Indiana Pacers center and Marist alum Rik Smits on the roster.

They said it:

“Marist is 0-9, but only one of their losses is to a team with a losing record. I think they are dangerous. They have played Stony Brook, Providence and Manhattan. Every team they’ve played minus Morgan State has a winning record and a lot of those teams are playing non-conference schedules somewhat similar to ours. They are coming off a layover with a week off for finals.” – CofC Head Coach Doug Wojcik on the upcoming rematch with Marist

“Marist was a good team last year. We have to go into Sunday’s game focused, win the battle on the glass and look to get out in to transition for some easy baskets. It’s a new team and new year – we just need to stay focused.” – Junior Guard Anthony Stitt on turning around and playing Marist on Sunday

“We just have to be ready. You never know what’s going to happen, so we have to bring our best game to that matchup. Every day is a good day to play – we’re looking forward to it.” – Junior Forward Adjehi Baru on playing a team on a Sunday
