Top finishers in the 31st annual Charlie Post Classic 15K and 5K

RACE REPORT: CHARLIE POST CLASSIC 15K & 5K

The 31st Charlie Post Classic 15k had 265 finishers despite a windy 23 degree morning this year and saw its long standing course records fall.  Michael Banks of Charleston, SC won in 45:54.61 to take 15 seconds off the record that had stood since 1990.  Laurie Knowles of Charlotte, NC was female winner in 53:00.4 taking 50 seconds off the record that had stood since 1988.  The accompanying 5k had 281 finishers with Wells Johnson of Summerville, SC winning in 17:59.98 and Eliazbeth Currey of Mt Pleasant, SC female winner in 21:27.48.

Lowcountry Masters Games launch on Tuesday, hopes to lure competitive athletes age 50 and up

The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission  along with several other area recreation organizations, is launching the Lowcountry Master Games on Tuesday. 

The Lowcountry Master Games will feature a different sport or event each month this year.

The games, which include basketball, softball, racquetball, golf, bocce, table tennis, track and field, along with several others, will be held at different locations throughout the greater Charleston area.

Sign up for the first-ever, 21-day Kids Yogaverse Challenge is underway, starts Feb. 10

Kids Yogaverse (formerly Kids’ Yoga Journey) is excited to announce the first ever, free 21-Day Kids Yogaverse Challenge starting on February 10, 2014.

Every day, participants who sign up will receive a new, short video via email with the opportunity to practice a yoga pose based on the Kids Yogaverse’s award-winning yoga mobile apps, including I AM LOVE and I AM SUN, I AM MOON. 

These yoga poses will build on each other, creating a flow for children all ages to practice over and over again.

Students from Meeting Street Academy will be among the runners at the 31st Charlie Post Classic

Nineteen students from the innovative Meeting Street Academy will be running the Charlie Post Classic 5K on Saturday, thanks to a sponsorship by the Charleston Running Club.

The race starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in front of the Sullivan’s Island Fire Department. The event also includes a 15K run.

The students, ages 5-10 years, are MSA’s running program, started more than a year ago with eight students who showed great potential as runners and would benefit from the extra energy outlet that running provides.
