Fleet Feet Sports Mount Pleasant to celebrate first anniversary with free fitness classes and group runs

Local retailer Fleet Feet Mount Pleasant is celebrating the anniversary of their opening day on Friday with several events and giveaways during the anniversary weekend, including:

·      Free Les Mills group fitness classes in the store at 8:15 am and 7:15 pm on Friday

·      Physical challenges in the store to earn discounts on Saturday and Sunday

·      Family Fun Run at 2 pm Saturday from the store. There will be a one mile fun run, a family relay race, and other fun games and prizes

In the past year, Fleet Feet has partnered with several local organizations and schools to better the community.  The “giveback” program offered to all local schools has resulted in more than $550 being donated to support school wellness programs.

The business has donated more than 70 pairs of running shoes and shirts to children in the Meeting Street Academy Running Club.

They have also provided more than 200 Moving Comfort sports bras to female students in JROTC programs in the Charleston County School district through their “Support the Girls” program.

“Our family truly loves living here in Mount Pleasant and being part of this community,” said owner Amy Minkel.

“We want to see the community continue to become a healthier and happier place to live by educating and empowering people of all ages to live a healthy, fit lifestyle—whether that’s our customers who come to us for fitness shoes and apparel or groups in the community who we can assist toward that goal. We couldn’t do any of it without our customers, though. We truly appreciate all their support over the past year and hope they’ll continue supporting us so we can impact the community for years to come.”

Mark your calendars: East Coast Paddlesports and Outdoor Festival set for April 11-13 at James Island County Park

I hate to admit this, but I’ve never been to the East Coast Paddlesports and Outdoor Festival, formerly know as the East Coast Canoe and Kayak Festival.

I think it’s partly because it used to be a, well, canoe and kayak festival, and while I enjoy doing those activities, I don’t do them enough to go to a festival featuring them. The other part is that after it was expanded in a broader outdoor festival, my Saturdays were tied up with other reporting responsibilities.

This year – I’m going – particularly because I’m on a mission to try new things: paddleboarding, archery and climbing, to be specific.
