Women-only “Diva Night” at Fleet Feet Sports helps “Support the Girls” program

Wear red on Friday

The Lowcountry goes red for American Heart Month

Red will be the color of the Lowcountry on the 11th Annual National Wear Red Day, Friday, February 7th, and throughout Heart Month in February.

Hundreds of women and men will wear red and a number of local buildings and establishments will “Go Red” to make a statement against heart disease and support the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women, a movement that educates women about their No. 1 killer and empowers them to take positive action to reduce their risk.

Due to storm damage, Running of the Hounds on March 1 has been postponed until the fall

According to a spokesperson for the Running of the Hounds event, the ice storm cause enough damage to trees and the trail, the event has been postponed.

 “I just got a call from the property manager at Middleton,” said Rebecca Gosnell, of the marketing firm, Gosnell and Co. “The ice storm has left many large branches broken and hanging in the canopy and they have asked us to reschedule Running With The Hounds as they need time to let the grounds dry out and then bring in equipment to remove the branches. They don’t feel they can make all of that happen before the event.”

Edwin McCain to join The Blue Dogs, 50 other bands performing during Cooper River Bridge Run


South Carolina singer songwriter is one of 50 bands to play along the 10K course


Nationally acclaimed singer songwriter Edwin McCain has been added as the headliner to the lineup of 50 bands that will perform live along the 10K course of the Cooper River Bridge Run on Saturday, April 5, 2014.

McCain will play at the race start line and will complete the race at the finish line as he plays with Charleston, SC-based band, The Blue Dogs.

Top finishers in the 31st annual Charlie Post Classic 15K and 5K

The 31st Charlie Post Classic 15k had 265 finishers despite a windy 23 degree morning this year and saw its long standing course records fall.  Michael Banks of Charleston, SC won in 45:54.61 to take 15 seconds off the record that had stood since 1990.  Laurie Knowles of Charlotte, NC was female winner in 53:00.4 taking 50 seconds off the record that had stood since 1988.  The accompanying 5k had 281 finishers with Wells Johnson of Summerville, SC winning in 17:59.98 and Eliazbeth Currey of Mt Pleasant, SC female winner in 21:27.48.
