Everyone knows that yoga can help stretch the body, but few people realize it can also be a powerful tool for stretching the imagination, too.
A workshop combining the ancient practice of yoga with social painting will explore the idea that mindfully moving the body enhances the creative process on Saturday, November 23rd at 10 a.m. at Fear No Easel in Mount Pleasant, SC.
Jivamukti Yoga Charleston is hosting Joshua Greene — a popular lecturer on yoga philosophy, the holocaust, and peacekeeping initiative — this weekend. (See the schedule and pricing below.) Greene’s books include Here Comes the Sun: The Spiritual and Musical Journey of George Harrison and Gita Wisdom: An Introduction to India’s Essential Yoga Text.
He also produced the film “Living Yoga,” a biography of Swami Satchidananda, who opened the famed Woodstock festival. He is a Professor of Religion at Hofstra University on Long Island, and has spoken at the Pentagon, the World Economic Forum, the New York Public Library Distinguished Author series, and numerous universities.
In 2000, Mr. Greene was appointed Director of Strategic Planning for the United Nations Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders. That year his book Witness: Voices from the Holocaustwas produced as a feature film for PBS. His next book, Justice at Dachau, revealed the story of the largest yet least known series of war crimes trials in history.
I asked Jivamukti co-owner Andrea Boyd how Greene’s appearance came to be and what people will be able to draw from his talks.
