Spencer Carbery signs contract extension; affiliation with Caps on the way soon

I know you guys haven’t heard from me in a while.

I’ve been stuck in Charleston Battery nation, but it’s a place I enjoy during the summers.

This must be killin’ you guys. Having the Florida Everblades on the verge of winning their first Kelly Cup title.

Who’da Thunk it!

I talked with Rays coach Spencer Carbery right before the playoffs started and he felt like Florida was going to be the team to beat. They got healthy and got their players back from the AHL at the right time.

That kind of reminds me of what happened with the Rays during their 2009 run. They got a couple of guys back from the AHL and then they got a couple of more guys healthy and ready to go.

It’s really the formula for success in the postseason in the ECHL.

I wonder if our lawyer buddy from down in South Florida will make his return if the Everblades win.

Spencer signed a two-year contract extension today. I thought overall Spencer did a good job in his rookie season. He learned a lot about coaching. There were a couple of trades and moves he made that didn’t go according to plan, but the one thing about Spencer is that he learns from his mistakes.

I haven’t heard about any player signings for next season. It’s still a little too early for that.

The Rays are close to extending their affiliation with the Washington Capitals. Spencer said he’s not looking for a second affiliation.

I’ll be posting on a semi-regular basis for the rest of the summer.

My new Twitter handle is APMILLER_PandC. It’s still the same account, but the powers me to change the name to reflect some of the other beats I cover on a regular basis.
