S.C. Rep. Peter McCoy, R-Charleston, will serve as Lowcountry chairman for Newt Gingrich’s presidential bid.
Gingrich considers South Carolina crucial to his campaign. He said at a stop in Columbia recently that if he wins South Carolina he believes he will be the party’s nominee.
McCoy, a former criminal prosecutor, will serve as the campaign’s surrogate in the Charleston area.
Adam Waldeck, Gingrich’s South Carolina director, said “We are lucky to have someone of Rep. McCoy’s caliber join us in the fight; the fight to help rebuild the America that we love.
