Scott makes fundraising pitch for Haley after appointment

COLUMBIA — Gov. Nikki Haley on Monday chose Tim Scott to succeed the resigning Jim DeMint next month. Three days later, the senator-designate is making a fundraising pitch for Haley.

This morning, Scott sent the following email, titled “Only the Beginning,” to Haley supporters:

Fellow Patriots,
I was honored earlier this week when Governor Nikki Haley gave me the opportunity to replace outgoing Senator Jim DeMint.

Watching the Governor from afar has been incredible. I can’t imagine the daily pressures of governing this state. But I can see with clarity the conviction, integrity, and character that she governs with.

The Democrats are already in attack mode against her, and as I send this, they are already preparing their smear campaign against the Governor in the next election.  We need Nikki Haley in office to continue fighting for the conservative principles we hold so dear. I understand it is the holiday season, but Governor Haley needs just another $27,450 to end this month strong.

Please consider making a donation here to help her reach her goal.

This is only the beginning, but the future is incredibly bright and looks great in our state!

South Carolina is better because we have Nikki Haley as our governor and I look forward to working with her for a long time to come.
Sincerely,

Tim Scott

P.S. – The unions are already preparing their attacks. Please help Nikki finish this month strong by making a donation here!

(End of email)

The pitch comes after Haley on Tuesday sent an email soliciting donations for Scott’s campaign.

As of the last disclosure period, Haley had more than $1 million in her campaign war chest. Look for that number to grow when the latest round of fundraising numbers are released next month.

Haley: Jenny Sanford a ‘confidante’

COLUMBIA — On Tuesday, a source close to Gov. Nikki Haley confirmed that the governor has narrowed her list of possible U.S. Senate appointees to succeed the retiring Jim DeMint down to five candidates. The finalist that’s drawn substantial curiosity is Jenny Sanford, the ex-wife of former Gov. Mark Sanford.  Today I asked Haley, a former protege of Mark Sanford, about her relationship with Jenny Sanford.

Here’s what Haley said: “I’ve always stayed in touch with her, yes. We’d see each other from time to time at events and then we also have emailed back and forth.”

I followed-up by asking Haley if the pair talk policy.

Haley’s response: “At times I’ve asked her opinion on things, or if I see her somewhere I’ll just say, you know, ‘Do you have any advice for me, is there anything you see I’m doing right or wrong?’ I’ve always done that. I do that with any former governor that I see as well. And so she’s one of those people I look at. She’s lived it, she’s been through it. So she’s a confidante that I’ve always looked to to just say, ‘Tell me what I’m doing wrong, tell me what I’m doing right.’”
