COLUMBIA — While the political world waits for former Gov. Mark Sanford to make a final decision on whether to seek the 1st Congressional District seat, one of his close allies is going to work for a potential rival in the race.
Chris Drummond, a Charleston political consultant and former spokesman for Sanford, will work as the lead consultant and strategist for the campaign of Republican Teddy Turner, Drummond confirmed late Tuesday.
Teddy Turner, the son of CNN founder Ted Turner, was among the first group of candidates to announce interest in the seat.
Drummond said he told Sanford of the decision on Friday before signing with Turner, but said he doesn’t know whether Sanford will run or not.
Filing for the seat vacated by Senator-designate Tim Scott will begin at noon on Jan. 18 and close at noon on Jan. 28, according to the State Election Commission.
Scott will be sworn in Wednesday.
