While Mayor Joe Riley has declared Thursday as “Christine Osborne Day” in honor of her contributions to the Charleston community and children’s charities through her four Wonder Works toy stores, she is encouraging everyone to contribute something to someone else that day, which happens to be her birthday.

“This day is not about me,” Osborne said. “I want this day to be about the magic of giving. We just hope people take the time and give back to someone else. Whether you help out an elderly couple in the neighborhood by walking their dog, or whether you bring food to Crisis Ministries or the local animal shelter, we just encourage that you pay it forward in some way. You don’t have to give something either; just sharing kind words with someone can make a huge impact on their day.”

Sawgrass Technologies of Mount Pleasant will feature a digital textile printing method called FabricMaker that allows shopkeepers to create their own commercial fabrics 6-8 p.m. today at People Places and Quilts at 129 W. Richardson Ave.

The South Carolina In-Water Boat Show is set for April 12-14 at Daniel Island’s Waterfront Park.

The existing city of Charleston dock will be complemented by about 1,000 linear feet of portable floating docks and spud barges to accommodate a full array of motor and sailing watercraft.

Ticket holders can tour boats and enjoy land-side attractions. The event includes dozens of boats on land, boat-building displays, presentations, boating and fishing demos, live music, local food and a children’s area.

Vapor Apparel’s new line, Altered Latitudes, is the official apparel brand of the boat show. It’s in 75 retailers from Maine to the Caribbean, including Charleston Angler’s four stores.

Tickets are available online for $8. They will be $10 at the gate. Children 12 and under enter free and a discounted ticket is available for students and active military at $5.

The Cleaning Authority of Charleston has teamed up with Cleaning For A Reason, a nonprofit organization which helps women battling cancer, to clean the homes of two women once a month for four months for free so they can concentrate on their health and family.

“We’ve seen firsthand how difficult it is to fight the disease while trying to maintain a sense of normalcy,” said business owner David Floyd, whose mother-in-law is fighting liver cancer.

Since 2006, Cleaning For A Reason has donated over 12,000 free cleanings to women battling cancer.  The organization uses a network of more than 1,000 residential cleaning services in the United States and Canada, which have donated over $3.4 million worth of services.
