Kids’ Free Event at Sewee Visitor Center

Children will learn and create their own butterfly and flower, as well as observe bees and butterflies in action in Sewee’s butterfly garden. This is a free event for kids, and it runs Tuesday -Saturday at 10 a.m. until May 31.

Here Be Books $1 Book Sale

Here Be Books and Games is having a sidewalk book sale. Thousands of books will be on sale from 50 cents to $1 – a great chance to get some cheap books for the kids to read over the summer break.

The sale is May 17-19 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The bookstore is located at 4650 Ladson Road in Summerville.

Free Jazz Concert

The Arts Business Civic Coalition will host a free concert, “Jazz Under the Stars,” on Saturday, May 18th from 6-8 p.m. If you arrive from 5-6 p.m., you can stroll for free through the Sculpture of the South Exhibit.

Bring a blanket, a lawn chair, a picnic basket and the kids and enjoy evening of the Tommy Gill Quartet, featuring Robert Williams on saxophone.

Azalea Park is located at 105 W. 5th St. off S. Main St. in downtown Summerville.

Free Skin Cancer Screening

May is Melanoma Awareness Month and Roper St. Francis Healthcare Cancer Center will be having a free skin cancer screening. With summer here, this would be a good time to get checked. They are partnering up with Dermatology & Laser Center of Charleston.

The screening will be held on May 21st, from 5-8 p.m. at Roper St. Francis Cancer Center, located at 2095 Henry Tecklenburg Drive, Charleston, 29414.
