South Carolina fans will have to wait another week before learning the kickoff time for what could be the Gamecocks’ crowning moment in the SEC East, or just another big game against Florida.
CBS will use a six-day option for selecting which game to air Nov. 16. The SEC’s premier network is choosing between South Carolina’s home game against Florida and Georgia’s trip to Auburn. If CBS chooses USC’s game, kickoff will be scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium. If not, the Gamecocks will either play 7 p.m. on ESPN2 or 7:45 p.m. on ESPN.
“It’s sort of a championship game, or it may not be a championship game,” Steve Spurrier said Sunday on his teleconference. “We won’t know.”
Except, depending on its kickoff time, South Carolina may know exactly what it’s playing for against Florida.
Usually, the 3:30 p.m. game on CBS is considered the conference’s game of the week, but South Carolina could gain an advantage in the later time slot. The Gamecocks need Georgia to lose at Auburn if it has any hope of reaching Atlanta as the Eastern Division’s representative at the SEC Championship Game.
Knowing how the Georgia-Auburn game is going could help — or hinder — USC’s chances against Florida. Whether USC gets that chance, it will have to wait and see.
