South Carolina basketball coach Frank Martin will have at least seven new players on his roster next season, his second with the Gamecocks, as he tries to build the program into a winner.
Martin will also have a new face on his bench. His top assistant, Brad Underwood, will take the head coaching job at Stephen F. Austin, according to CBSSports.com. Underwood followed Martin from Kansas State.
This isn’t Underwood’s first head coaching gig. He ran junior college programs at Dodge City (Kan.) Community College (1988-92) and Daytona Beach (Fla.) Community College (2003-06) before going to Kansas State in 2006 as Bob Huggins’ director of basketball operations.
Martin promoted Underwood to assistant coach when he took over for Huggins in 2007-08.
Martin did not return a message seeking comment. His other assistants are Matt Figger, who coordinates recruiting, and Lamont Evans. Both came with Martin from Kansas State.
