UPDATE 11:01 a.m.: RB C.J. Fuller (Easley HS/Easley, S.C.) and DT Jabril Robinson (North Brunswick/Leland, N.C.) finished it off, becoming signees No. 19 and 20 in this class.
The Tigers are still waiting on Andrew Williams (unlikely to pick Clemson), but Fuller and Robinson ensured Clemson won’t lose any verbal commits to flipping to other schools, a signing day staple.
Head coach Dabo Swinney will address the media at 2:30 p.m. from the WestZone at Memorial Stadium.
UPDATE 10:04 a.m.: DE Richard Yeargin III (Nova University School/Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) previously was committed to Notre Dame, and picked up a late offer from new Texas coach Charlie Strong. But he was reported to be firm with Clemson earlier in the week, and sent in his NLI to the Tigers at 9:59 a.m.
Yeargin, a four-star prospect out of Fort Lauderdale, also was interested in offers from Florida and Arkansas, per 247Sports.com, and had offers from Auburn, Florida State, Louisville, Michigan, Nebraska, Stanford, USC, and South Carolina among others.
UPDATE, 9:55 a.m.: LB Jalen Williams (Blythewood, S.C.) becomes the 17th signee in this class. Williams, per CUTigers.com, will greyshirt, meaning he will either enroll this summer or in January 2015. That gives the Tigers more room to stay under the 85 scholarship limit, which likely will mean 1-year offers to former walk-ons RB C.J. Davidson, LS Michael Sobeski and S Taylor Watson will be rescinded for the time being.
UPDATE, 9:25 a.m.: Add four more Tigers to the fold, giving Clemson a total of 11 signees today (plus the early enrollees), and they did it in a matter of eight minutes.
At 9:15 a.m., RB Jae’lon Oglesby (Daniel HS/Central, S.C.) added to the Daniel tradition of Clemson players. There were eight on last year’s roster.
At 9:20, S Jefferie Gibson (Gray’s Creek HS/Hope Mills, N.C.) bolstered the Tigers’ depth on the back end. There’s been some rumblings Jayron Kearse could be moving to linebacker next year after putting on some weight in the early offseason.
At 9:23, LB Kendall Joseph (Belton-Honea Path HS/Belton, S.C.) filled out this recruiting class’s linebacking corps.
And at 9:26, TE Cannon Smith (Hammond School/Columbia, S.C.) was the fifth South Carolina native of the day to sign with Clemson.
UPDATE, 8:40 a.m.: Recruits are allowed to sign and fax their national letters of intent at 7 a.m. local time of their high school (not the college), which meant all 14 of Clemson’s verbal commits who didn’t already sign financial aid agreements could make it official early. Every Clemson commit entering Wednesday is in the Eastern Time Zone.
In the first 100 minutes of National Signing Day action, seven joined the Tigers’ clan. The first two were from the Peach State – LB Korie Rogers at 7:12 a.m. (Buford HS/Flowery Branch, Ga.) and TE Milan Richard at 7:37 a.m. (Calvary Baptist School/Savannah, Ga.)
OL Taylor Hearn, 7:53 a.m. (Williston-Elko HS/Williston, S.C.) and OL Justin Falcinelli, 8:05 a.m. (Middletown HS/Middleton, Md.) beefed up the Tigers’ front in the early morning as well.
RB Adam Choice (Thomas County Central/Thomasville, Ga.) made it a total of three Georgia products on Wednesday, and five overall, at 8:27 a.m.
Just after the bottom of the hour, K Adam Spence at 8:32 a.m. (West Florence HS/Florence, S.C.) filled the void left by Chandler Catanzaro. He’ll compete with Ammon Lakip for place-kicking duties.
And at 8:37 a.m., WR Trevion Thompson (Hillside HS/Durham, N.C.) made it seven.
As we all know, quarterback Deshaun Watson, receivers Demarre Kitt, Kyrin Priester and Artavis Scott, and linebacker Chris Register have already been locked down. They’re enrolled in classes.
Clemson junior wide receiver Daniel Rodriguez had a fun little tweet a few minutes ago: “Happy signing day. Your recruiter forgot 2mention the 430AM wake ups 4morning workouts haha. Stadium stairs await, CU soon! #AllIn #Clemson”
